L'hypothèse Gaïa

Cette œuvre appartient à la série intitulée "Géographie nocturne". Elle a été réalisée par Guenolée à la lueur des bougies, dans une atmosphère d'intime introspection, avec une vision modifiée des couleurs.

En 1974, un article au titre énigmatique parut dans la revue scientifique Tellus : « Atmospheric homeostasis by and for the biosphere : the gaia hypothesis » (« L’homéostasie atmosphérique par et pour la biosphère : l’hypothèse « Gaïa »). Coécrit par James Lovelock, scientifique britannique, et la biologiste américaine Lynn Margulis, le texte formulait l’hypothèse d’une planète Terre autorégulée, à la manière d’un être vivant.
Ils la baptisèrent « Gaïa », du nom de la déesse grecque antique.
